A new webcam went live last week showing many gray seal puppies. The webcam is located in Seal Island, Maine, where many gray seals migrate to every year to give birth to their young.
Seal Island has an area of 65 acres, and with 500 seals living their between December to February, it is the US’s second largest birthing ground for gray seals. The island is owned by the US Fish and Wildlife Service. It is managed by the National Audubon Society. The webcam is funded by explore.org.
We’ve featured webcams from Seal Island before showing Atlantic puffins. As the puffins have left the island for this season, the National Audubon Society allowed one of the puffins webcams to be used to show the gray seals.
With the seal births often happening on islands in cold climates, the webcam provides a nice easy way for animals fans and scientists alike to get a sneak peek of some seal puppies!
